GATEWOOD, Betty G. Betty Graham Gatewood, 93, of Tucker, GA, a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 7, 2016. Betty was born in Newcastle, Wyoming where her parents were homesteading. She grew up in Akron, Indiana before moving to Augusta, GA. She lived the last 61 years in Tucker, GA. She was preceded in death by sisters, Marian Dearing and Jean Journey, and brother, Robert Graham. She is survived by three daughters, Ann Posey, (Marion), Lynn Hippner, (Gordon), and Pamela Crawford, (John), 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty lived a full and active life. She soared in a hot air balloon in Atlanta on her 70th birthday and celebrated the day with a dinner party at Hooters. She parasailed over the Gulf of Mexico with her granddaughter, Julia at age 79 and soared in a glider with her granddaughter, Cynthia over the Hawaiian Islands when she was 82. At age 85, she rode in an open cockpit helicopter with her grandson, John, touring Stone Mountain Park, one of her favorite places to visit. Betty loved parades, circuses, and upon retirement from the Postal Service, she graduated from clown college. She never missed Tucker day and watched the last 35 Peachtree Road Races, cheering on many members of her family. She was a true beach bunny all her life. Clearwater Beach was one of her favorite spots for anytime of the year. Betty loved playing board games and cards with her grandkids, especially bridge and rummy. She embraced the latest technology, and kept up with her family and friends on Facebook, using her I-Phone and I-Pad. Betty was an active member in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker serving as an elder and deacon and in many other capacities. Betty was a tireless volunteer throughout her life working in the Auxillary at DeKalb Medical Hospital, serving as Girl Scout Troop Leader for all 3 of her daughters, serving on mission trips, and volunteering at the local food pantry. Interment was performed in Augusta Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, the Loom Program of the Initiative of Affordable Housing in Decatur, Georgia, or a charity of your choice. Betty’s life will be celebrated with family and friends on Friday, February 12th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Tucker.
